CSAC Announces Cross Country Pre-Season Rankings

Comments

ASTON, Pa.—The Marywood University women's cross country team was selected by the Colonial States Athletic Conference head coaches to repeat as league champions once again this season, according to the 2014 preseason coaches' poll. The Pacers, who have won four straight conference crowns and 10 overall, received nine of the 11 first-place votes and ended up with 119 total points. Marywood boasted the top five runners at the 2013 CSAC championship meet held at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. Marywood finished 10 points ahead of the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins, who earned two first-place votes. Keystone College was voted third with 91 points while Cairn University notched the fourth spot with 82 points. Immaculata University (fifth, 63 points), Centenary College (sixth, 59 points), Cabrini College (seventh, 50 points), Baptist Bible College (eighth, 47 points), Rosemont College (ninth, 38 points), Neumann University (10th, 37 points) and Cedar Crest College (11th, 31 points) completed the preseason voting. "It is an honor to be selected by the other cross country coaches in the CSAC conference as the preseason favorite at this time," said Marywood head coach Scott Hutchinson, who is in his first season at the helm of the Pacers. "We certainly have our work cut out for us as we graduated six seniors from last year's squad and two other young ladies will not be returning. Four all-conference performers and three all-region performers are gone from last year's team that competed at the National Cross Country Championships. We have two all-conference performers back in Emma Doughman and Shauna McGraw. Emma was also an all-region performer for us. Despite the great losses, I really feel good about this year's 2014 squad as we have a couple of new upperclassmen and a really nice group of freshmen with some talent. They all realize the great opportunity they have in front of them in making an immediate impact on our team and within the CSAC conference. We all look forward to the challenges ahead in defending our CSAC crown." The 2014 season will commence for 10 of the 11 women's cross country squads on Friday and Saturday, August 29-30. Cairn University will serve as the host school for the 2014 CSAC championship meet which will take place on Saturday, November 1.2014 CSAC Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll PlaceTeamPoints (1st Place)1.Marywood119 (9)2.Gwynedd Mercy109 (2)3.Keystone914.Cairn825.Immaculata636.Centenary597.Cabrini508.Baptist Bible479.Rosemont3810.Neumann3711.Cedar Crest31
